Geotechnical Investigations for Marine Structures and Dredging


marine-1Marine infrastructure and dredging projects are generally significantly more expensive than similar land‐based projects. Specialised equipment has been developed to deal with most conditions and it is essential that designs are appropriate for the ground conditions and correct equipment is mobilised at the start of any project to ensure that the project meets budget and programme requirements. In recent times, dredging and marine piling projects have resulted in some of the largest cost and schedule blow‐outs and contractual claims. A good geotechnical investigation and a good understanding of the construction principles is therefore a must to minimise the unknowns.
